Five for Friday!

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share my Five for Friday!  Hop on over to join.

I've been participating in Thinking of Teaching's 100 Minutes Book Club!!  The book has really been a great motivator for me and I've enjoyed it!   You can read more about it here.  Are you doing any book studies this year?
I am ecstatic to be joining Catherine over at the The Brown Bag Teacher for her book study for Reading Into the Wild.  The book looks like just what I need to get excited.  If you follow me on Instagram, you know I had a skype interview the other day.  I maaaay have heard back about my job interview but I will have to let you know more once things are finalized :)

My good friends from Colorado are visiting us this week in Spain!!  We've been beaching and explorin' the island!  We haven't seen many friends from home since we moved here.  It's really nice to have them here.  It feels like we're with family again!

And tomorrow we jet off to one of my favorite cities ever- PARIS!  It's my husband's 30th birthday and our friend's birthday {they're twins!} so we have plenty to celebrate while we're there!

NEXT WEEKEND we fly home for good.  Peace out Spain.  It's so sad but also very exciting.  We have a lot to look forward to this coming year.  It looks like we will officially be moving to Greenville, SC.  My husband and I graduated from the University of South Carolina so we're looking forward to being back close to where we met and in the Southeast again after a year abroad and several years on the West coast.

Happy weekend!!  I hope you have a GREAT one!!  Off to enjoy some Sangria and explore with our friends :)  Thanks so much for stopping by!

5 for Friday {Giveaway, Cronuts, Adventures Galore}

HAPPY FRIDAY!!  I just love Fridays!  Everyone's in a good mood, the weekend is *just* around the corner, and you're always allowed to wear jeans :)  Even though I am slightly obsessed with dresses and leggings, nothing beats a good ol pair of jeans.  Am I right?  I'm liking up with the adorbs Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday!

GIVEAWAY!  Sooo, my birthday was last week and I was hoping to have a celebration with a giveaway and all sorts of fun stuff- but my computer decided otherwise!  So starting RIGHT NOW I'm hosting a giveaway.  Enter below to win a $25 gift car to TpT and MANY amazing products.  Details are at the bottom of the page :)

a Rafflecopter giveaway

CRONUT!  Oh my goodness.  Maybe I'm out of the loop but I had never had one of these bad boys until this week.  My sister-in-law was in town and noticed it as we passed a bakery.  De-lish-ious!  Seriously!  In case you're like me and unaware of the cronut fad... a cronut is a deep fried croissant in the shape of a donut!!  You're welcome.

Going with the glutenous theme- HELADO {aka Ice Cream/Gelato}!!  While the sister-in-law was visiting we had to get some yumminess :)  I loved every second of it!

My hubby is a huge history nerd.  He studied history in college, can frequently be found reading nonfiction history books, and loves to take me to historical places.  Some I love... others, not so much.  Luckily this week he took me to one that I really loved!  We visited the local castle, Bellver Castle.  You know..... just built in the 14th Century.  No biggie.  It was super cool.  And a very unique date :)

My hubby and I left our beautiful kitty cat back in the states to stay with my husband's family so I have a weakness for kitty cats when we see them out and about.  This one meowed so loudly when I walked past him that I couldn't help but give him some love.

Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to join to link up for Five for Friday and don't forget to enter the giveaway!!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Five for Friday!

Happy Friday everyone!  I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for a little Five for Friday!

http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com.es/2014/02/five-for-friday-linky-party-february-21.html

I'll be working on this guy all weekend.  It looks like my hubby and I may be moving to the Greenville, South Carolina this Summer!  So I'm on the search for a new job- anybody know anyone who is hiring in Greenville?  I have 4 years of experience in the classroom and I am ready to send, send, send my resume!  After four years teaching at 3 different schools, I am ready for a teaching "home".  I loved my schools in Colorado but it's definitely time to be closer to my family on the East coast!

I began playing a fun new game with my classes this week!  It's great for ESL but also for some vocabulary enrichment in a non ESL classroom. To play it is super simple and needs nearly zero materials.  Have your class form two lines in front of the chalkboard/whiteboard.  At the top of the board write a topic, as broad or focused as you'd like.  Then, like a relay, have students come up one at a time and write a word that corresponds to that topic.  Once they've written a word, they pass the chalk back and the next student comes up.  After two minutes, the group with the most words wins.  However, you could do the group with the most letters {so they're using bigger words}, wins.  Or the most creative words win.  I could use this game with every class for any type of review.  You could have them writing science words- body parts- food- breakfast foods- jobs- words ending in -ity or -able-etc!  I didn't count words that both teams came up with.  Improper spelling was not an issue because it wasn't our focus, but that is up to you.  After two minutes they would sit down and we would talk about each word, correct spelling, and award points.  Perfect for a fun and easy review!

All the jobs they came up with

I was finally able to finish up a Fraction Art project that I have been wanting to TpT-arize since last year!   I did this last year with my 5th graders and really loved it.  Students create a picture using fractional pieces and then they have to add up all of the fractions to find out how many wholes they have in their picture! Included is a Rubric, the fraction pieces, directions, and a student's page with questions for them to answer about their art work.  I shared it with my Facebook Followers when it was completed and had it free for the first 24 hours it was on TpT.  For more freebies, follow my Facebook page --here--!

March Madness is coming up and if you're like me, you're excited to fill in your bracket!  Well, what better way to incorporate some sports into your classroom but with Miss Nannini's March Madness Basketball Tournament Math Project!   My class did this last year and we LOVED LOVED LOVED it.  I can't do it here in Spain because they would not understand- but I cannot wait to do it again next year, wherever I end up!  I will be blogging about it more next week.  Be sure to stop by to learn all about how it worked in our classroom!

And #5:  I leave you with this- a perfect little summary of Friday!!  Have a good one :)

Five for Friday!

Happy Friday, friends!!  One of my favorite weekends of the year is the weekend after Christmas break!  You're still feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and ready to tackle the weekend :)  I hope you're still feeling fresh and ready to go too!

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching  for Five for Friday!

Come heeeeere!
Ever wonder how I became a teacher in Spain?  Interested in moving abroad?  If teaching here is something you would be interested in, the application process just opened this past week and will be accepting application through March!  It's free to apply and you don't have to even be a teacher OR speak Spanish! My husband and I both got job placements in the same city and are having a wonderful adventure here together!  Learn more about it --> here <-- OR please feel free to e-mail me :)  Appleslices4th@gmail.com  I would love to help you with any questions or concerns you have.  Moving abroad can be scary and unnerving, but I am so glad I did it.  I wouldn't change it for anything!  If this is something you've been considering, I urge you to look into it.  What do you have to lose?

Christmas break is officially over.  My hubby and I had the best travelling around Europe but it's always nice to get back home and settled in :)

I had a nice surprise when I took the early train an hour out to my school on Tuesday- it was a teacher strike day!  The teachers still strike once a month in order to continue trying to find a balance with the government.  So instead of heading home since no teachers were at school, I wandered around, sat in parks, explored outside of hundreds of year old churches, and soaked up the sun.  It was 70 degrees here and I was enjoying every minute of it!

Old church, blue sky, palm tree shadow, no jacket... happppppy.
So since I had a FREE day, I spent it putting away Christmas decorations and organizing the house.  I even stopped for some fresh flowers so I could have something once the decorations were all put away.  I always feel so sad once I've taken down the pretty holiday decorations!  The flowers definitely helped :)

So I spent my first day back to school sharing with my little Spanish students what a New Years Resolution is.  They don't have that custom in Spain, so it was new for them!  I used The Applicious Teacher's cute little New Year Flip books and we created four resolutions.  They loved it and I'm looking forward to getting them up on the wall when I'm back in the classroom on Monday.  Not being able to get into the school outside of work hours makes it tough!

I am looking forward to making these adorable little snowmen this week with some of my ESL learners!  We will make them and then label them in English or write about them in English, depending on the level.  I've seen these little guys all over the blogsphere and Instagram so if you know where the idea originated, please let me know!

Thanks so much for stopping by- have a wonderful weekend!!

Five for Friday!

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for another Five for Friday!  It's been a great week and I'm so excited it's Friday!  How about you??

My American friends and I celebrated our own Thanksgiving this past Saturday.  I was in charge of a turkey, and in Spain that's no easy feat!  We ended up ordering one ahead of time from a butcher.  He informed us that when we went to pick it up he would prepare it for us... Meaning the head and some of the feathers were still attached when we first saw it.
But no worries... they chopped and plucked for us.
That was a new experience.

Turned out pretty delicious!!
We've been working on question words in my ESL classrooms, which is the perfect excuse to play some hot potato!

I use english music while we pass around my cell phone case.  And when the music stops, whoever is holding my cell phone case must answer the question I ask them.  This makes it super easy to 1) differentiate and 2) have a little fun :)  If you can see the blackboard in the picture below, I draw small pictures, like 10 circles, 8 hearts, 9 stars, etc.  I'll add more or less depending on the grade level.  Then when I ask a question, I can ask "How many stars are on the board?" or "Where are you from?" depending on how I feel.  I plan to mix it up once they get better with the questions and have fun with it throughout the year.

My hubby and I went on a nice overnight Thursday.  Neither of us had to work on Friday because it was a holiday and we wanted a quick trip.  We took the bus to the next town over.  And it was absolutely amazing.
Our B&B had kitty cats that FORCED us to hold them in our laps and not move for an hour.  Look at how tortured I am.

The view from our bedroom window.  My favorite part is that you can see the sea in between the mountains!!
ADORABLE kitty cats snuggled up in a planter.  Heart swoon.
Beautiful flowers and an old door.  I don't think I can ever get sick of Europe.
Same kitty cat snuggling with me in my lap holding me hostage.
My hubby and I are spending our Friday night in watching Aviones.  Or better known as Planes.  He's a huge fan of Cars so it's impossible to go wrong with Planes!

Lastly, I am hosting a GIVEAWAY to celebrate having 200 followers on my TpT Store!!  Please enter so you can also have the opportunity to win $25 to TpT!!

Have a wonderful weekend!!  XO!
